How to take care of your dog's teeth without brushing?
Hello! My name is Marcin Michalski and I have found a natural solution to your problem.
Dear Concerned Owner!
Would you like your dog to have healthy teeth, but brushing is a chore? Is your dog constantly lashing out, biting the toothbrush and you can’t do anything?
Or is he a good boy, but brushing is too difficult and you can’t reach the back teeth with your toothbrush?
Or even though you brush his teeth regularly, he still has tartar build-up? I know exactly how you feel!
Our dog, Bruno, had extremely dirty teeth and his tartar collected very quickly. He didn’t got used to brushing from a young age and that was a mistake.
At first, he just wouldn’t open his mouth. We had to bribe him with treats and only after many attempts did we teach him that if he opened his mouth, he would get a reward.
Then we had further problems. It turned out that he had very sensitive gums and ordinary toothbrushes irritated them.
After a while he would start squeaking and lashing out. Once he even bit the toothbrush.
We finally learned to brush very calmly with a very gentle toothbrush, but the troubles didn’t end there.
We thought brushing would take care of the problem.
Bruno and I went to our annual vet appointment. After a year of regular brushing, it turned out that we were doing it wrong and tartar was still collecting on the back teeth.
Without a dental mirror, we had no way of seeing this. More than a year of regular work with the dog, and 2 of his teeth had to be removed, because of the tartar build-up.
The vet removed the 2 rotten teeth under anaesthesia and cleaned the others. He said that some dogs have really dirty teeth and it is not at all a rare case.
We started looking for another solution. After all, in the wild, animals have no way of cleaning their teeth. Or do they? Why exactly do dogs have so much tartar on their teeth?
Recent studies show that diet is the main reason
Three independent studies have confirmed [1], [2], [3], that the diet of today’s dogs can lead to inadequate bacterial flora in the dog’s mouth.
The first sign is extremely bad breath. I do not know what it’s like for your dog, but Bruno’s breath has always been really stinky.
The main reason for bad breath is a particular type of bacterial plaque. You can see it with your own eyes as a brownish-yellow deposit on your dog’s teeth.
If you have noticed something like this in your dog, don’t worry. We will show you a simple way you can take care of your dog’s teeth.
After this discovery, we got to work
In collaboration with dog nutritionists, we managed to get to the bottom of the problem.
We read hundreds of scientific studies and noticed that many plant extracts and herbs have a positive effect on dental health in both dogs and humans.
Many of these remedies can be found in various types of supplements for teeth. We researched the 10 most popular dental cleaning supplements and understood where the problem lies.
Do dental chews work?
The short answer is no. Chews are a great type of entertainment for your dog. They exercise the jaw muscles and and satisfy the urge to chew, which is very important for young dogs.
A study in the Journal of Biological Sciences shows [4], that their positive effect on teeth is negligible. Above all, they do not remove tartar between and from the back teeth.
The additives in chews also do not help to take care of oral hygiene. They are usually vitamin C or D in very small doses, which do not help to clean the teeth of plaque.
Why other supplements don’t give good results?
Most supplements for dogs’ teeth have ingredients that help to remove tartar to some extent. However, each suffers from at least 1 of 3 problems:
- low doses of active ingredients
- lack of scientific studies proving the effectivness
- unhealthy fillers (e.g. grain) in the formulation
We are about to discuss how manufacturers legally deceive consumers and what to look out for when choosing right supplement for your dog.
Small doses of active ingredients
The first and most common marketing ploy of supplements is to show a long list of active ingredients without giving any dosages.
In theory, manufacturers can add trace amounts of ingredients and list them in the formulation. This is why visible doses are so important.
If you see that a supplement has 5 ingredients, but neither on the website nor on the packaging can you read the specific dosages, do not buy that supplement.
Lack of scientific studies confirming effects
This is the second most common mistake of supplements. I can understand a manufacturer claiming that something works. But unless it shows specific scientific studies, you can’t be certain, that it does.
In the 10 supplements we checked, only 2 had partial support in scientific studies. But none of them stated at which doses the effects were noticed.
How should it be listed? Example: studies of dill show its positive effects on the dog’s digestive system – dose in supplement: 1.5g (effect noted from 1g per 10kg body weight).
Unhealthy additives
Many manufacturers do not want to disclose the full composition. In most cases, this means that they use ingredients that you would not knowingly want to give to your dog.
Flavour enhancers or artificial flavourings can have both bad effects on your dog’s stomach and teeth. Some grains can even increase tartar build-up.
If you see something in the ingredients that you don’t understand, check what it is. In our experience, watch out for corn gluten, BHT and artificial food colouring.
We decided to change that
We managed to create a comprehensive supplement with a natural composition. We isolated the 5 most important ingredients that finally overcame the tartar on Bruno’s teeth.
The doses of each of our ingredients has been scientifically proven in clinical tests.
Each ingredient has been chosen to work differently. All this to make our supplement work comprehensively.
Finally, we got rid of all the unhealthy fillers. With us, you won’t find corn gluten, BHT or synthetic colourings.
Dental Algae’s special algae blend
Discover a special blend developed by nutritionists, scientists and veterinary dentists.
Why did we create our own algae blend? Our research has confirmed that combining ascophyllum nodosum with other algae enhances its effects.
Above you can see a comparison of the Dental Algae blend with 3 types of regular ascophyllum nodosum. The results are truly impressive.
First of all, our blend works more intensively and faster than ordinary brown algae. Studies have shown that Dental Algae reduces up to 4 times more tartar.

Ascophyllum nodosum
The main ingredient in our special blend is Ascophyllum nodosum. This is a unique type of marine algae from North Atlantic waters.
It was originally discovered by fishermen who added it to the feed of their animals. They noticed that their cows’ teeth were much more healthy.
In the 1960s, scientists became interested in Ascophyllum. They confirmed that it helps to reduce tartar build-up in mammals.
Ascophyllum reached the dog world very recently. A Polish study in 2023 confirmed the positive effects of Ascophyllum on the teeth of dogs and cats.
Dose: 600 mg (effect noted at 200 mg per 10 kg body weight)
Spirulina
Spirulina is a blue-green algae that is known for its rich protein, vitamin and mineral content. They were originally used by the ancient Aztecs, who appreciated its nutritional and medicinal values.
Modern research has confirmed that spirulina has strong antimicrobial properties, thus accelerating the regeneration of gums, which is very important for dogs.
In addition to this, spirulina helps to reduce bacteria in the mouth, helping to reduce plaque.
Studies show that regular use of spirulina can support dental and gum health in dogs, as confirmed by numerous scientific experiments.
Dose: 400 mg (effect noted at 200 mg per 10 kg body weight)
Chlorella vulgaris
Chlorella is a green algae that has gained popularity for its exceptional detoxifying properties and high chlorophyll content.
It was already used by the ancient Chinese, who believed in it’s ability to cleanse the body.
Modern research has shown that chlorella has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, making it an effective aid to oral health.
Chlorella helps to reduce gum inflammation and neutralises bad breath.
Dose: 50 mg (effect noted at 25 mg per 10 kg body weight)
Sage
Sage is a plant that has been known for centuries and has been used in traditional medicine for its many health properties.
Recent studies have shown that sage has the ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria in the dog’s mouth, helping to reduce plaque and prevent gum problems.
Its active ingredients, such as essential oils, promote dental and gum health, making it an effective natural remedy for dog’s oral care.
Regular use of sage significantly reduces tartar build-up and prevents cavities. The effect of sage has been confirmed by many studies.
Dose: 100mg (effect observed from 50mg per 10kg body weight)
Thyme powder
This is a herb that has been used for thousands of years. Thyme has a million uses and its positive effects on teeth were noted as early as the Middle Ages.
Science rediscovered it in the 20th century when its antiseptic and antibacterial effects were confirmed.
Studies show that thyme in the form of an odourless powder prevents gingivitis and significantly improves dogs’ breath.

“I have a sheepdog who developed gum problems as he got older. He was bleeding heavily from them and I had to be really careful after cleaning his teeth because he was getting inflammation of the gums from the tartar build-up. Brushing a dog’s teeth is no fun, especially when he’s not used to it from a young age. I’m too old for this. A vet friend of mine recommended this supplement to me and after 3 weeks I saw that despite not brushing his teeth, the tartar didn’t build up. It saves me a lot of hassle, so I think it’s a very good solution. I sincerely recommend it.”

“After a long struggle with supplements, I finally came across Dental Treats. It’s the first supplement which made a difference. After a month of using it, Billy has visibly cleaner teeth. If anyone is worried that the dog won’t eat because of the powder in their feed, that’s not the case with us, because it smells great. Previously, I tried brushing Billy’s teeth with a toothbrush, but he didn’t like it one bit. He was constantly trying to get away. Adding powder to his food is a much more convenient. I recommend this powder to all dog owners.”
